Spend Your Vacation in Cancun this January

Just the other day I was talking to some friends about our travel plans for this year. So, where to go in January ? Oh that’s simple: Mexico!

Mexico is popular year round because the weather doesn’t change that much for season to season. January is not very hot and the wet season has ended. Which means, the stream of tourists are on their way, but not as many as in December… and it doesn’t take much to realize that most of them are escaping the colder northern climates.

While January is still part of the high season in Mexico, finding cheap flights to Cancun isn’t that hard. Flying from New York? In late-January, round trip flights start at $240 per person on Spirit Airlines. Flying from Portland (OR)? Prepare to rack up $401 per person for a round trip flight on US Airways.

As for the accommodation, you can find hotels in Cancun for every budget. If you are on in a 2-star hotel with basic facilities, prices start at $65 per night (includes breakfast and parking).

Make sure to pack your swimsuit and plenty of sunscreen. Swimming, snorkeling and other water sports can be practiced here. Don’t miss the open air markets and , if you are into history, plan to visit the close by Mayan vestiges.

Chichen Itza can be visited during a day trip, although you can easily allow two days for this site. It’s located midway between Cancun and Merida. Just make sure to arrive early, before the sun gets too hot. Make sure to stay hydrated and wear appropriate walking shoes.
