Playa del Carmen

Which started as a small fishing village, grew with the opening of the ferry to the island of Cozumel , a world known diving location. While passing through Playa many tourists decided to also stay here and spend time on the beaches. Hence, it didn’t take long for Playa to grow in popularity.


Playa del Carmen is located just south of Cancun , on the coast of the Caribbean Sea.

How to get to Playa del Carmen

The closest airport to Playa del Carmen is Cancun International Airport, which is Mexico’s second busiest airport. It receives flights from North America, Europe and South America.

From the airport, there are public buses which run to Playa del Carmen. There are 11 buses per day and the fare is about US$7. From downtown Cancun you can catch an ADO bus to Playa del Carmen.

Playa del Carmen is blessed with sub-tropical weather. The annual average temperature is about 27C, which means it’s almost always warm. Sometimes it’s hot. The humidity is high year round. But the good part is that no matter when you visit Playa, you can soak up the sun and get a lovely tan. November to January are the coolest months.

What to do

Most of the activities in Playa are centered around the sea and sand. Snorkeling and diving are at their best here. Of course, soaking up the sun on the beach is also a very popular activity here.

Avenida Quinta (Fifth Avenue) is a laid-back pedestrian street which runs for 2 miles , lined with hotels, restaurants , shops and bars. Spend your time people watching , shopping or tasting the local cuisine. Playa is a very pedestrian friendly place, so you can basically walk absolutely everywhere.

You can take a half day trip to Xcaret, where you can spend some time on the beach, visit the zoo or the aquarium.

The nightlife is amazing ,but not as wild as in Cancun. Still, there are plenty of clubs to choose from and many of them are located right on the beach.
