May in Mexico City

If you plan to visit Mexico City in May, you don’t need to worry about hordes of tourists but , on the other hand, there aren’t many events to choose from either. However, the weather is nice for sight seeing.

May is still among the warm and dry months in Mexico City although it is quite cold during the night. The average low temperature is 55F/12C which means you need to carry a jacket if you plan to go clubbing or stay out late. During the day, the average temperature is 79F/26C which makes it pleasant for sigh seeing especially since there’s little rain now.

Things to do & Events

May 1 first Labor Day all over the country and in the capital there are usually celebrations or marches in Plaza de la Constitucion. Also, please note that all public offices will be closed on this day.

Unfortunately May isn’t exactly a month filled with events in Mexico City. Each year, around mid-May the Vive Latino Rock Festival attracts the rock-loving crowd to Foro Sol in Mexico City. The majority of singers are from the Spanish-speaking music world but some international artists are also present.

However, given the temperatures and lack of rain you can explore the city’s sights during the day and try the local night life in the evenings. There are plenty of historic sights in the capital and visiting them all will surely take at least couple of days.

And you can also relax in the Park surrounding Chapultepec Castle . Don’t forget to check out the botanical garden.

A visit in Mexico City is not complete without trying the local dishes so make sure to check out the restaurants in the capital.

Arriving in Mexico City in May

The majority of travelers arrive in Mexico City by air and land on Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX). The airport is served by major airlines offering flights from US, Canada and Europe. It pays to search for multiple options and even consider flying at rather “weird” hours (such as mid-night).

Where to stay in Mexico City in May

Choosing the place to stay mostly depends on your budget. If you are a budget traveler and don’t like to spend too much on a hotel room then the hostels are the perfect choice for you. Beds cost about US$15-20 per night.

If you prefer to travel in style, then a hotel room is the best choice. In May, expect to pay around US$50 per night in a 3-star hotel right in the heart of the city.
