March in Mexico City

March represents the first month of spring in Mexico City and is still part of the high tourist season. There are plenty of events to attend and of course, the nice weather allows for a lot of sightseeing.

March marks the start of spring in Mexico City. The temperatures are pleasant for sightseeing and there isn’t much rainfall either. Evenings and mornings are cold so make sure to bring appropriate clothes. Expect an average high of 76F/24C and average low of 50F/10C.

Events and things to do

March 12 marks the Indigenous Mexica New Year with celebrations taking place in El Zócalo. The square is filled with dancers and you can also watch different rituals being performed.

The Spring Night Festival takes place in the Centro Historico during the entire month of March. The old part of the town fills up with dancing and music until the early morning hours.

Spring is extremely colorful in Mexico and anyone can visit the beautiful Flowers and Plants Festival which takes place during the entire month of March in Mexico City (each Friday to Sunday). The event takes place in Paseo de la Reforma and besides being able to see beautiful flowers you can also purchase organic coffee and honey.

Mexico Festival takes place between March 12 and 29. Different performances – dance, theatre, music, guided tours – take place in different parts of the city like squares, temples and in the historical center.

In between those events, you can check out the historic sites in Mexico City which include Cathedral Metropolitana, El Zocalo, the Aztec Ruins of Templo Mayor, squares and palaces.

And if you got tired after that much sightseeing and partying, the stores and markets offer lovely choices for snacks and bargain shopping.

Of course, you can also sample the Mexican cuisine in one of the many restaurants in Mexico City.

Mexico City is served by many airlines, so your best bet is catching a flight into the city.
