Mexico is still among the top destination wedding and honeymoon spots in the world. For the Americans who want to choose a honeymoon close to the border, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas are, without a doubt, the best options. In fact, Puerto Vallarta has some of the finest honeymoon resorts in Mexico.

Besides these two major honeymoon locations, there are also several cities further south which are renowned for their beauty. Also, Acapulco has always been a beautiful getaway sport, while Cancun is gaining more popularity each year.

Puerto Vallarta

Playa Fiesta Beachclub & Hotel

Located on the edge of the water and offering some of the best – and romantic – sunsets in Puerto Vallarta, this boutique hotel is exactly what honeymooners are looking for. Although located at only 5 minutes from the hustle and bustle of the town, the hotel offers the intimacy anyone wants during their honeymoon. There are only 30 bedrooms and all ocean view and penthouse bedrooms offer stunning views as well as a terrace.

The hotel also has a restaurant, a bar, swimming pools and a spa. The restaurant is perfect for enjoying your meals or for a party (even your wedding reception). The menu offered is a mix of American and Mexican cuisines where fresh fish is the staple ingredient. A candlelight dinner is the perfect start for a romantic night.

As for the rates, a standard room (accommodates 2 persons) costs US$199 per night between October and December 2008; and US$249 per night between January and May 2009. The penthouse suites’ prices range between US$399 per night (max 4 persons) during 2008 and US$499 per night during the high season 2009.

Cabo San Lucas

Esperanza – An Auberge Resort

This small luxury hotel is probably the most sought after honeymoon destination in Cabo San Lucas. All suites have terraces and offer incredible views of the sea. The resort also offers a restaurant, a bar, the possibility to dine in the suite, a spa, private beach and fitness center – indeed a great place to relax and spend a romantic honeymoon. A lot of activities can be practiced near-by, including: whale watching, fishing, diving, surfing, snorkeling, horseback riding, golf and tennis.

The resort offers three honeymoon packages. The Luna de Miel Honeymoon Package (4 nights) includes 4 Nights in an Oceanview Casita, transfers to and from the airport, champagne upon arrival, daily breakfast, one romantic dinner for two and a couples spa treatment; the prices range between US$5,263.50 and US$7,567.50 from October until December 2008, depending on the type of Casita you choose.

The 7 nights package is pretty much the same but also includes the event called “Carnavalisimo” and two (instead of one) couples spa treatment; prices range between US$8,999.50 and US$12,135.50 from October until December 2008, depending on the type of Casita you choose.

The Knot Just Yet package includes 3 nights accommodation in a Two Bedroom Villa, daily breakfast, daily yoga classes, transfers to and from the airport, tequila tasting classes and spa treatments; prices start at $7,118.00 from October until December 2008.
