Cancun is blessed with more than 240 days of sunshine a year. Although the wet season lasts from August to November, rain is actually rare. Having an average temperature of 80F year round, Cancun draws tourists every season. The peak season starts in December and ends in April. If you plan to save some money, come to Cancun in late April or May. Between June and November the weather is hot and humid.
All in all, Cancun is an expensive destination with deluxe resorts catering for everything a tourist would want. But that doesn’t mean you cannot find discount hotels, even if they are luxury ones. Having said that – the luxury part – don’t expect the following hotels to fit a backpackers budget, but you won’t exactly have to pay and arm and a leg to get a room here either.
Ritz-Carlton Cancun, Cancun
This five star hotel has 365 rooms and is considered one of the best discount hotels in Cancun. There are outdoor swimming pools and, a gym and a spa available for the guests. The restaurants are excellent and the place is very elegant. All rooms have balcony, TV, internet access and phone.
If you plan to stay here during the peak season, expect to pay between US$269 per night for ocean view room and U$709 per night for a club exclusive suite.
Sun Palace, Cancun
This three stars hotel has 252 rooms available for the guests. The resort has been completely renovated and reopened in January 2007 after being destroyed by Hurricane Wilma. This is a couples’ only resort and the minimum age for the guests is 18. There is wireless internet access in the entire hotel, there’s also a spa and the possibility to practice water sports. There are a gym and a pool on the property as well.
If you plan to stay here during the peak season, expect to pay between US$348 (discounted price) per night for a superior deluxe room and US$508 (discounted price) per night for a junior suite.
Le Blanc Spa Resort, Cancun
This is a four stars hotel which has 260 rooms available for the guests. It’s also an adults only all inclusive resort, offering a very interesting and exotic ambiance. The breakfast is included in the room price. The property offers a gym, a spa, restaurants and internet facilities.
If you play to stay here during the peak season, expect to pay between US$498 (discounted price) per night for a royal deluxe room and US$863 per night for a Royal Governor Suite.
The Royal Cancun, Cancun
This is another adults only all inclusive resort, which offers 285 rooms for its guests. The all inclusive plan includes unlimited meals and snacks, unlimited beverages, room service, taxes, water sports equipment, entertainment and land sports (including tennis, billiards, Pilates, aerobics and yoga). The property offers a spa, a gym, internet access and restaurants.
If you plan to stay here during the peak season, expect to pay between US$419 per night for a junior suite and US$792 per night for a royal presidential suite. All prices are based on all inclusive plans.
Riu Palace Las Americas, Cancun
This is a four star hotel which offers 372 rooms to its guests. The hotel is pet friendly. There are a spa, a gym, a pool and restaurants. This is the best hotel to choose if you want to do a lot of shopping while here. The Plaza Caracol shopping center is just across the street from the hotel.
If you plan to stay here during the peak season expect to pay between US$213 (discounted price) per night for a standard room and US$255 (discounted price) per night for a junior suite. All prices are based on all inclusive plans.
